The Journey

Imagine running a marathon every single day - not for a week, not for a month, but for 999 days straight.

Two years, 8 months and 24 days.

This isn’t just about breaking records; it’s about shining a light on mental health in our emergency services, raising vital funds, and proving that resilience can inspire change. Every step is a tribute to the people behind 999 - the ones who answer the call when we need them most.

The Vision Behind 999 Marathons

This challenge started as a simple idea: break the record for consecutive daily marathons (currently 607). But very quickly, it became something much bigger - a mission to raise awareness and funds for mental health support within the emergency services.

I’ve always admired the people behind the 999 call - the ones who run toward danger when the rest of us run away. They save lives, comfort families, and carry unimaginable stress. Yet, their own mental health often goes unnoticed. This journey is for them.

Why 999?

999 is the number we all dial in an emergency. It’s more than digits - it’s hope. Behind that call is someone in crisis, and behind the response is someone who might be silently struggling themselves.

“We see you. We value you. And we’re here to support you.”

Training for the Challenge

Here’s the truth: I don’t have a detailed training plan. I’m not a professional athlete. I’m starting this journey with very little preparation - and that’s intentional. Emergency workers don’t get to prepare for every crisis. They adapt, they push through, and they keep going. That’s what I’ll do too. Mile by mile, marathon by marathon, I’ll get stronger along the way.

How You Can Support The Journey

This isn’t just my challenge - it’s ours. I want this to be a movement, not a solo mission. Here’s how you can be part of it:

  • Run with me: Join me for a marathon or even a single mile. Every step counts.

  • Share your story: If you’ve worked in emergency services, tell us what mental health support means to you.

  • Spread the word: Use social media to amplify the message. Tag, share, and talk about why this matters.

  • Fundraise: Host an event, sponsor a marathon, or simply donate. Every contribution helps provide mental health support where it’s needed most.

The Road Ahead

Running isn’t just physical - it’s mental. For me, it’s therapy. It clears my head, lifts my mood, and reminds me why resilience matters. That’s what I hope this challenge will do: start conversations about mental health and show that strength isn’t just about muscles - it’s about asking for help when you need it.

This journey won’t be easy. There will be injuries, bad weather, and days when motivation runs low. But I believe in the cause - and I believe in the power of community. Together, we can make a difference, one marathon at a time.
